Multilingual LMS Index 2026: how 53 platforms handle languages
74.1 million people in the US speak a language other than English at home. We read the websites and help centres of 53 LMS vendors and recorded what each one does with languages. 43 show their interface in more than one language. Only 7 let one course carry several languages, and 2 document exporting a multilingual SCORM package.
Who needs training in another language
The US numbers, from the Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey and OSHA:
| Figure | Number | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Speak a language other than English at home (age 5+) | 74.1 million · 23% | ACS 2024, table S1601 |
| Speak English less than "very well" (age 5+) | 28.9 million · 9% | ACS 2024, table S1601 |
| People in the labor force (25+) who speak another language at home | 37.9 million · about 1 in 4 | Calculated from ACS 2024, table B16010 |
| Most-spoken languages after English | Spanish 44.9M · Chinese 3.7M · Tagalog 1.9M · Vietnamese 1.6M · Arabic 1.5M | ACS 2024, table C16001 |
| Foreign-born share of workers, by industry | Construction 26.4% · Agriculture 23.3% · Manufacturing 19.9% · Hospitality 19.8% | Calculated from ACS 2024, table S0501. A stand-in: no official table gives English ability by industry. |
The rule that makes it a compliance question rather than a nice-to-have: OSHA's 2010 training policy says an employer "must instruct its employees using both a language and vocabulary that the employees can understand" (OSHA). For harassment prevention, New York requires its policy and training information in the employee's primary language where the state provides one (Labor Law §201-g), and California requires the written policy to be translated where 10% or more of a workforce speaks another language (2 CCR §11023).
What the 53 vendors document
Each bar is one capability across all 53 vendors. "Not documented" is common and worth noticing: if a vendor's site and help centre never mention it, a buyer has to ask in the demo. Hover or tap a bar for the names.
One course, many languages: the 7 that do it
This is the capability that decides how much work a second language is. With language versions inside one course, you translate, review and publish; completions and certificates stay on one record. Without it, every language is a separate course to build, assign, report on and keep in step.

"Partly" (17 more vendors) usually means separate courses linked together, a language plug-in such as WPML, or versions only for one content type.
Interface languages, as each vendor publishes them
32 vendors publish a number. They are not like for like: Moodle's figure counts community language packs, many incomplete (counted 155 language packs with a completion percentage on https://download.moodle.org/langpack/5.3/ (17 at 10...); others count only fully translated languages. Log scale, so the short bars stay readable.
Translation included in the plan, and who charges for it
7 vendors include course translation in the plan you already pay for: MyPass (ours), Canvas, Chamilo, Google Classroom, Sana Learn, Valamis, iSpring Learn. 16 charge for it on top, as a paid add-on, AI credits or a higher tier. 21 don't say, which usually means it is in the quote.

How we did it
- The same 53 vendors as our pricing and AI indexes. Their own websites and help centres only: product pages, documentation, release notes, pricing pages. No review sites or press.
- Fourteen capabilities, fixed before we started. "Yes" means the vendor documents it as available now; "partly" means it exists with a real limit (an add-on, a plug-in, one content type, beta); "no" means the documentation says it isn't offered; "not documented" means we couldn't find it either way. A marketing line with no feature or documentation behind it counts as not documented.
- Interface-language counts are the vendor's own number or a count of the list it publishes. Several help centres were behind a login or blocked automated reading on the day; those cells are marked not documented rather than guessed.
- US population figures are the Census Bureau's 2024 ACS 1-year estimates, the latest published. Figures marked "calculated from" are sums or ratios of published table cells.
- We sell one of these products. MyPass was scored from kprise.com by the same rule. It has 38 interface languages and is one of the 7 vendors with language versions inside one course. If you're a vendor and a cell is wrong, send us the page and we'll correct it.
Questions people ask us
Which LMS supports the most languages?
By published interface languages: Moodle (155), Google Classroom (73), Sana Learn (63), Docebo (53), Cornerstone Learning (45). Counts are what each vendor lists on its own site, and they are not like for like: Moodle's 155 are community language packs, only some of them complete. 21 of the 53 vendors publish no count at all.
Can one course be delivered in several languages?
Only 7 of the 53 vendors document a single course holding several language versions: MyPass (ours), Paradiso LMS, 360Learning, Docebo, Sana Learn, Valamis, LatitudeLearning. Another 17 do it partly, usually by linking separate courses or through a plug-in. Everywhere else you duplicate the course for each language, and every later edit has to be made in each copy.
Which LMS can export a multilingual SCORM package?
2 vendors document it: MyPass (ours), Docebo. 9 can export SCORM at all, and 14 say they cannot. Most LMSs import SCORM rather than produce it; multilingual SCORM is still the job of an authoring tool.
Is training legally required to be in the employee's language?
For safety training, effectively yes: OSHA's 2010 policy says an employer "must instruct its employees using both a language and vocabulary that the employees can understand." For harassment prevention there is no federal language rule. New York requires its policy and training information in the employee's primary language where a state template exists; California requires the written policy to be translated where 10% or more of a workforce speaks another language.
